Class Party 18.12.19

All classes in Year 5 will be holding their class party on Wednesday 18th during the afternoon. This will include singing, dancing, games and more!

For this, the children can bring in a festive top or jumper that can be put on over their school uniform. They can also bring in a snack to enjoy at the party.

Next Week will be a short week as we are breaking up on Thursday 19th December for the Christmas break.

It will be a fun-filled week including: watching the annual Avenue pantomime, merit assembly and the class party, which is on Wednesday 18th December in the afternoon (see separate post for details).

The children will also be rounding off our European Explorers topic by creating a 3D poster displaying all of their new knowledge.

In maths, we will be completing our half termly assessments as well as planning a Christmas party, considering budgets.

In topic this week, we have been writing our traditional tales based on Little Red Riding Hood, but with a twist. The children have impressed their teachers with their descriptive language and their use of adverbials of time, place and manner, which was our grammar focus for this task. We also spent time editing and improving our stories as this is a vital part of the writing process. Thank you to all parents and carers who came to visit on open classrooms and some were able to read some of these.

In maths, our focus has been on square and cube numbers. The children understand how to calculate a square and a cube number and most know all of the square numbers up 144 (12×12) off by heart. Hit the Button is a great online game, that is free to use, to practise square numbers further and all times tables!
